INNER SILENCE

These photographic explorations form part of a project by Catherine Adam — exploring the beauty of that seemingly precise space where water and air appear to meet, the horizon. Taking the time to see, to feel and to be fully present in the silence offered by nature, these visual mediations invite the viewer to experience a non-literal and inner world of colour, tones, textures, light and dark.

Catherine is very much drawn to creating images of how inner stillness feels to her, this underlies much of Catherine’s photographic creations to date.

“Silence is essential. We need silence, just as much as we need air, just as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts, there is no space for us.”
Thich Nhat Hanh

THE STAVES OF DISCERNMENT

The final renderings (above) of three finial designs are from the series Empyrean by Emily Fletcher. Each finial sits as a numinous golden talisman atop a stave – becoming the ‘crown’ piece of a Stave of Discernment. The gesture of each finial personifies the unfolding, burgeoning and uprising of an individual’s soul-life aspiring for inner transformation and a deeper, more integrated connection with the Higher Self. For the owner of such a stave it represents, and is a reminder of, the ennoblement of the soul and embodies courage, nobility and aspirational striving through the self-mastery of the individual.

Pages from a small daily journal of finial drawings – each sketch was part of a daily contemplative drawing practice.

THE SEASON SEALS

These four season designs created by Mark Geard represent the budding of spring, the fullness of summer’s blossoming and flowing nectar, the seed forming fire of autumn, and the contracting, crystalline forces of winter. These forms are held within a circle – the symbol of cosmic wholeness from which the rhythmic cycle of the seasons are generated.

Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.
Yoko Ono
